A thing called MBA

MBA ...a simple comprehension of a complex phenomena..

I am an MBA. Well, I almost am......

Yesterday I woke up to find a lizard rambling aimlessly on my room wall…….Know what; I have an inherent laziness associated with me while getting up from my morning bed. So, I decided to put time to best use by ‘analyzing’ the lizard.

To begin with, the lizard had no particular purpose. s/he (I m not a gender discriminating MCP) is always on prowl for better opportunities. And s/he had got big dreams.

Now on looking closely, I saw 2 more lizards (hey, I not a reptile freak, okay!) and then I sense competition in my first lizards’ err…..movements. The resources are meager, the opportunities lesser (count insects). So each has to move fast than another to catch the prey.

Slurrrp…..there goes the insect. My lizzy (s/he got a hip name too) is watching haplessly as the rival just ate up her (okay, this is it…Lizzy is a she!) prey.

Moral of the story is……………………………………

Bah….there are no morals…its just a ever present tussle for survival….at a B school...This just gets nastier……enter MBA……………blah……..

I just shrugged off this ‘analyzing’ attitude that MBA gave me, or rather imbibed in me…and got up to brush my teeth.

To put simply….. MBA teaches you to complicate the simpler things and vice versa….yes my dear…..it is not that waste….

Now for the serious part…these are some of the things that one gets to learn at a decent B school (I don’t want to get dragged amidst the endless /useless/pointless/trust less Indian Business Magazines publishing “true and fair” rankings annually of India’s top B schools)

1. You survive with an ultra diverse background batch mates…..representing length, breadth and depth of India. This opens your perspective and makes you good at tackling people.

2. You get to learn many of the best practices in Management, Organizational Behaviors, Operations, Finance, Communications, Marketing, Sales et al….. It is not that you can’t learn these on your own. But we all have known for long enough that an average Indian boy/girl is more interested in K- Factor serials and Bollywood, rather than study the theories of excellence, if left on their own!

3. You learn to multi task, which can put to shame the Intel core 2 duo processor by a mile’s margin.

4. You learn that spending time in a hearty chat with a complete stranger, over Bacchus’ favorites drink will make your ties far more strong with him/her, rather than shameless pleasantries that people normally exchange (and believe that they already have learnt the art of networking!)

5. Keeping your word to people is more important than getting grades.

6. You are what you are. You can improve, if you make a genuine effort. But you cant hide your true self and imitate someone else…..it shows off……(pun intended)

7. Friendships are made for life…..especially with lobby mates….

8. You realize that regardless of the level of your satiation with meal at night, the canteen has a Pavlovian effect in your brain at around 12 nights.

9. You slowly realize that you can present almost anything, to anybody, anytime…..but yeah……wearing a pair of sneakers in ppt is still a no no!

10. You never knew that you were so good with your fingers…(there you go……..I am talking about cut – copy – paste)

Overall….it is an experience worth having…some more finer details later…..but you will have to read the offer document carefully for that…

Writing a book......

Just a thought crossed mine mind...should I write a book? During my stay at South ex, I used to think endlessly between my mock cat rest breaks and endless planning exercises to become a part time writer. And needless to say that I was also inspired by Chetan Bhagat.

Many a times, there are feelings which cross my mind. I think that I will be able to express them lucidly once I will put my pen to paper. But suddenly a pseudo dementia takes over as soon as I begin thinking on a new project. Life offers unlimited opportunities for us to express ourselves, and believe me those opportunities are more numerous than the ubiquitous Airtel tagline....

So, coming back to the topic, er....what was it, yeah, to write a book.......lemme plan it out this way.....to make it simpler for you to understand..(look, here I go again on the self deceptive and self conceited trip, that people love to read my works....)....I will do a swot analysis....then an environmental analysis of PESTEL.....then I will perform a primary research on my fellow MBA students and gauge the taste of the season.....

Ahem..ahem.....are the Penguins, Doubledays and the Bantams of the world listening.....In case you are searching for the star writer of tomorrow.....you know whom to mail...!!

(Bah...Humbug......these self professed Booker aspirants and this internet web 2.0........god save the literature industry....!!!)
